International audienceToward a formal representation of seem, look and appear: This paper deals with the three English verbs of appearance, appear, look and seem. Its aim is to propose, within the framework of the Theory of Enunciative Operations, a formal representation which, starting from empirical data, makes it possible to outline at the same time both the similarities and the differences between these three verbs.Cet article traite des trois verbes d'apparence de l'anglais appear, look et seem. Son objectif est de proposer une représentation formelle dans le cadre de la théorie des opérations énonciatives qui, en s'appuyant sur les données empiriques, permette de figurer à la fois ce qui apparente et ce qui distingue ces trois verbes
